Are Research Associate/Research Scientists Eligible?
No
How do you become a co-mentor?
Each CIRM Scholar will carry out his or her research under the direction of a mentor working on stem cell biology or related problems and will spend the vast majority of time in the mentors laboratory. In addition, each CIRM Scholar will be assigned (by the Executive Committee) a co-mentor, a physician or physician-scientist with research and/or clinical interests that complement those of the mentor, to expose the CIRM Scholar to approaches in both basic science and translational disciplines. For example, a trainee working with a mentor focused on neural stem cells may have a co-mentor who works in translational research relating to neurology or neurosurgery. Each CIRM Scholar will attend the group meetings of the mentor and the co-mentor.
How are participants paid and where is the funding coming from?

If I am an international MD currently working as a post-doc, am I eligibile?
Yes, as long as you have an affiliation through a department or IDP.
What is the term of the grant?
Training will start the next Academic Year and will be limited to 36 months, but should not be less than 12 consecutive months. An awarded trainee position cannot be shared among multiple individuals. CIRM expects trainees to devote full time to training activities, which, in addition to their research, may include relevant course work, workshops, and scientific conferences. Clinical trainees are expected to confine clinical duties to those that are an integral part of their training experience. Any appointment less that 12 consecutive months requires prior written justification and approval from CIRM.
Are the monies deferrable to a later date?
The grantee must obtain prior approval from CIRM to carry forward unexpected funds from one budget period to the next that exceed 25 percent of the annual direct cost award amount for the expiring budget period.
Can you use the monies from this grant in conjunction with another grant?
No
Are faculty or prospective faculty eligible to apply?
No
